About

A drafting table for one deduction.

Square Footing does one job: it turns the size of your workspace and what your home cost into the home-office deduction, both ways, with every step shown. It lives at homebasedguru.com and is built and run by WeldonPC, a computer and web services company in Northeast Ohio.

What it is

A calculator and a record. The estimate works from numbers you type and stores nothing. An office file keeps your rooms, a cost log and your notes on the use tests under a private link, one page per tax year, and prints a year sheet you can hand to whoever prepares your return.

What it is not

It is not tax advice, tax software or a filing service. It does not decide whether you qualify or which method you should use; it shows the arithmetic of both so you, or your preparer, can decide. It is not affiliated with the IRS or with any tax software company.

Where the rules come from

IRS Publication 587, Business Use of Your Home (for 2025 returns), the IRS page on the simplified option, Form 8829, and Publication 946 Table A-7a for depreciation. When the IRS changes a figure, the site is updated and the change is noted here.

No AI, no tracking cookies

Every figure comes from a formula you can read on the rules page. There are no analytics services and no tracking or advertising cookies. The public pages carry one labelled banner from AdEngine (adengine.us), WeldonPC's own small ad network; its script is the only code the site loads from anywhere else, and the privacy page says exactly what it sends. Office files and their print sheets never show an ad.
